Trek for a Pioneer

Hello everyone!

Just a few reminders.  Forms are due April 27, 2011.  We are looking for the TREK for a pioneer form and the medical forms for everyone, including Ma's and Pa's and leaders.  The youth need to turn in those forms AND the registration form so we know who is going by April 27th.   We want to know each and every youth that is planning to go on the trek BEFORE the fitness challenge so we can track their progress that day.  If you have a youth turn a form into you, please get it to a stake leader before April 30th.

THANK YOU!

If you are a Ma/Pa, we look forward to seeing you at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday April 30th at the Weathersby's.  All Ma's and Pa's and leaders attending this meeting, don't forget to bring your bucket to sit on.  Everyone else (all other leaders and youth) should be there at 8 a.m. for the fitness challenge.  Don't forget to wear your "ALL IN!" t-shirts.  If you don't have one yet, let Audra know.  She has all ones that still need to be passed out.

Return and Report

Thank you so much to all the MA's and PA's who came to the training last night!  Thank you to all of the trek committee who attended the youth fireside last night!  It was a wonderful evening.

I heard a few stories about last night about Ma's and Pa's advertising in wards, but I want to hear more!  I think this is a great place to share stories about our shared experience on the trek and leading up to the trek.  One thing you will find on the trek is that EVERYONE has a different experience, a personal experience in the middle of this HUGE youth activity.  If you are a Captain or on the Trek Committee, please feel free to share a story about a youth you talked to last night (no names, please) or a wonderful Ma/Pa that came to visit your ward and the difference that they made.

I would love to see the "TOP 10 LIST" or the "rap" in the comment section, but in the same breathe I talked to a Ma and Pa last night that said, "We just did a plain, boring advertising."  I don't think you know the difference you make in the youth's lives simply by showing up.  I don't think you know how important these homework assignments are and to hear you complete them makes my heart sing with joy!

One more sharing moment from me.  I talked to a Ma/Pa last night that said the ward they went to a week ago had one YW say out loud that she wasn't coming, but then they reported that she was in attendance last night!  WAY TO GO!  Good things are afoot.

Now take a moment and make a comment.
Share with everyone an experience you had about advertising in the different wards or a story about last night's fireside.

Happy Valentine's Day

Love yourself a little more this Valentine's Day and get out there and
Your feet will thank you for preparing your body and breaking in your shoes for the trek on July 13, 2011.  Moleskin and hiking socks were a huge plus on the trek 3 years ago.  Blisters were the #1 aliment on the trail.
Here is a great tip:
Wear the same sock and shoes while training for the trek that you plan on wearing on the trek.

For more tips about preparing your feet for the trek, check out this site HERE.
Have a great Valentine's Day!

  1. Call other Ma/Pa to coordinate which date each couple will advertise in that ward.  Don’t show up the same day!  (see page 9 of Ma/Pa handbook for contact numbers and emails of Ma/Pa couples)
  2. Call YM/YW Presidents and let them know you are coming.  You can easily access this information on the church's website.  Log in.  Click on "Tools", "Directory", find the ward you need on the left drop down menu of the Deer Valley Stake, click on "Ward leaders and organizations".  Good luck!
  3. Please make sure that EACH ward hears about the Kickoff Fireside TWO TIMES before Feb. 27th!  Plan on going on Sunday, February 20th, during the week on mutual night for your assigned ward, OR even on Sunday, February 27th.
It would be AWESOME if you could advertise in full pioneer gear, but if not that’s okay too.  Just be enthusiastic and do something fun!  Really promote the trek and how excited you are to go and what a great opportunity and experience this will be for our Stake.  The goal is to get each and every youth to attend this fireside with their parents!  THANK YOU each and every Ma/Pa for a great job.

ALL IN!

Each season our daughter's soccer team has a theme printed on the back of their practice t-shirts. One year the motto was "All in!" During a rough patch for the team, players were not showing up prepared to work hard: they straggled into practice, ran their drills halfheartedly, and just did not seem willing to put forth their best effort. Of course, this impacted their ability to get along. In frustration, the coach covered the motto on their shirts with tape and told the girls to keep the word concealed until they could prove that they were indeed "All in". For the next few weeks they could be seen, t-shirts taped, trying to redeem themselves on and off the field. Those covered letters were a little embarrassing to explain to friends and family as each player found herself repeatedly defining that attitude of full commitment. With each inquiry she had to wonder to herself, can I declare myself all in?
As a team they had to prove that each and every player was pulling their weight. Once they did, great things began to happen.

Like soccer, the Trek will be a team effort. We hope that everyone involved with the Trek will embrace what it means to be "All In". As individuals we need to be completely committed to giving our full effort. As a group we need the strength of each person. Together, we can and will make miracles happen.

You in? ALL IN!!
