B. Theme, Objective, and Principles: Wilderness Experiences
The 2011 Deer Valley Stake Trek Theme is:
The 2011 Mutual Theme:"I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." Philippians 4:13
"We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul - We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things." Articles of Faith 1:13
The 2011 Deer Valley Trek Objective is:
To help youth understand how God helps us through wilderness experiences.A wilderness is a place or situation that makes one feel confused, overwhelmed or desolate. As the youth learn the methods that God used to help scriptural heroes, pioneers and even modern-day individuals through difficult times in their lives, they will recognize these same principles in their own lives. This allows them to know that with their loving Heavenly Father and through the gospel of Jesus Christ they can do anything as they live through these perilous times. We will emphasize that God can help us through wilderness experiences through the following four principles (there are others):
1. Believe
"Believe in God; believe that he is, and that he created all things, both in heaven and in earth; believe that he has all wisdom, and all power, both in heaven and in earth;believe that man doth not comprehend all the things which the Lord can comprehend." - Mosiah 4:9
2. Hope"Wherefore, there must be faith; and if there must be faith there must also be hope; and if there must be hope there must also be charity." - Moroni 10:20
3. Endure"And, if you keep my commandments and endure to the end you shall have eternal life, which gift is the greatest of all the gifts of God." - Doctrine and Covenants 14:7
4. Live
"Behold, he was spoken of by Moses; yea, and behold a type was raised up in the wilderness, that whosoever would look upon it might live. And many did look and live. - Alma 33:19
